DYNAVIS at Intermat 2015

PARIS, FRANCE – Change-out the hydraulic fluid in your excavator and save €6,000 a year. That was the only incentive needed to get CEO Rainer Schrode of southern Germany’s Schrode GmbH civil engineering and road-building company to test hydraulic fluid formulated with DYNAVIS® technology.

Schrode’s story is one of four case studies compiled and featured in the display of DYNAVIS® Technology at this year’s INTERMAT exposition in Paris. The display, in Hall 6 Stand 044M, is the hydraulic fluid technology’s first 2015 appearance in Europe, after previous appearances at major construction equipment shows in the US and Asia last year.

DYNAVIS® Technology is an innovative approach to achieving higher levels of fuel efficiency and productivity developed by scientists at Evonik Industries. “DYNAVIS® Technology focuses on formulating hydraulic fluids that meet higher performance standards,” explains DYNAVIS® Aftermarket Support Manager Rolf Fianke. “In laboratory tests and field trials, hydraulic fluids formulated to DYNAVIS® Technology performance standards have achieved fuel savings averaging around five to ten percent versus a conventional monograde ISO 46 fluid, with some field tests having recorded gains of as high as 30 percent,” he adds.

Fleet owners of hydraulic equipment like Rainer Schrode are discovering until-now hidden profit simply by changing out their hydraulic fluid to one formulated to DYNAVIS® performance standards.
Schrode’s test of the DYNAVIS®-formulated fluid more than proved itself in terms of fuel efficiency. And with it came a noticeable improvement in performance. Schrode’s excavator operator Dieter Pukowski explains.

“The excavator didn’t lose power when I activated multiple functions. I could feel it. With the new fluid, there was no power loss.“

For INTERMAT, the DYNAVIS® display includes a specially-designed “Simulator” bicycle competition, which gives visitors to the stand a strong impression of the difference DYNAVIS® Technology makes. “When visitors to the stand jump on the ‘Simulator’ bikes, they feel the power of a hydraulic fluid formulated with DYNAVIS® Technology,” notes Rolf Fianke.

All four recently-completed DYNAVIS® Technology case studies are featured in the INTERMAT stand. In addition to the Schrode story, there are videos and graphic presentations of similar field tests at Screen-Renting BVBA, a construction debris recycling company based in Belgium; Ghizzoni S.p.A., an Italy-based company specializing in pipeline excavation; and UAB Vakaru Verslo Projektai, a Lithuanian company that mines sand for road construction.

BELGIUM: Screen-Renting BVBA
The Belgian case study, with Screen-Renting BVBA, provided a powerful example of how DYNAVIS® hydraulic fluid technology contributed to a reduction of hydraulic fluid operating temperature in an extreme work environment. Not only did DYNAVIS® Technology contribute an 11 percent decrease in fuel consumption, it also provided a noticeable improvement in the hydraulic-actuated movements of the excavator and eliminated the need for “heat breaks”.

ITALY: Ghizzoni S.p.A.
For Ghizzoni, there was a similar reduction in fuel consumption in the test excavator – nearly 10 percent. And given the size and standardization of the Ghizzoni fleet of excavators, all focused on a similar task, a simple extrapolation suggested a remarkable potential savings of €10,000 per month.

SPECIAL TO INTERMAT 2015
For the first time, and new to this year’s INTERMAT DYNAVIS® Technology display, all four DYNAVIS® Technology case studies will be represented at the stand at various times by one of the case study participants. “Case study participants such as Rainer Schrode have been invited to join us at our stand to provide interviews to industry media, and to answer questions and freely engage in meaningful conversations with visitors to the stand,” explains Rolf Fianke.

LITHUANIA: UAB Vakaru Verslo Projektai
The mining company, Vakaru Verslo Projektai, operates a number of wheel loaders and crawler excavators, which feed a screening unit and remove the output. The unit itself is a track-mounted, 36-ton Kleemann MS 19 Z. Once the screening unit is in operation, its screen must not be allowed to run empty.

At the end of the test, when the DYNAVIS®-formulated fluid had been in use for a full six months, the operators reported that the average fuel consumption for the screening unit had dropped from 20 to 17 liters per hour. And the relatively long test phase of six months meant that the fluid was exposed to the entire range of ambient temperatures – from a frigid –20° C to scorching summer temperatures exceeding 30°C. The six-month test provided a realistic estimate of annual consumption.
The calculated 15 percent reduction in fuel consumption would amount to more than €5,000 annually, assuming a five-day week with usage of 8 hours per day, and a diesel price of €1.27.

The DYNAVIS® Technology display will welcome visitors daily from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM, Monday through Saturday, April 20 through 25 at stand 044M in Hall 6 at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre. For more information about DYNAVIS® technology, visit dynavis.com.
